decades of service

The original Holt Street Baptist Church building remained an active church community at that site for more than 40 years. In 1998, Rev. Dr. Willie D. McClung, Sr. led the congregation through a relocation that would provide room for its continued growth.

Even as it moved forward, the church made a lasting commitment to preserve its pivotal connection to U.S. history. With the addition of the word “Memorial,” the original church name was retained, honoring the place where the Civil Rights Movement found its voice.

A New Chapter on South Court Street

The educational building is home to a weekday preschool and a Christian Academy for grades K–6, and includes the 100-seat I.S. Fountain Chapel, the 120-seat Performing Arts Theatre, and 22 classrooms.

The W.D. McClung Family Life Center rounds out the campus as a facility designed to accommodate large events.
