Rights & Reproduction

Last updated: July 2026

The Holt Street Museum is committed to sharing its collections and preserving the history of Holt Street Memorial Baptist Church and its role in the Civil Rights Movement. This page explains how images, text, and other materials on our website and in our collection may be used.

Copyright

Unless otherwise noted, the content on this website—including text, images, graphics, and design—is owned by or licensed to the Holt Street Museum and is protected by United States and international copyright law.

Some materials in our collection are the property of other rights holders, including photographers, donors, artists, and their estates. Other materials may be in the public domain. The Holt Street Museum does not own or control the rights to all items in its collection, and the absence of a copyright notice should not be interpreted as an indication that an item is free to use.

Permitted Uses

You may view, download, and print materials from this website for personal, non-commercial, educational, or research purposes, provided that you:

  • Do not alter or modify the materials
  • Do not remove any copyright, credit, or attribution notices
  • Credit the Holt Street Museum as the source

Uses Requiring Permission

Written permission from the Holt Street Museum is required before using any materials for:

  • Commercial purposes, including advertising, merchandise, or products for sale
  • Publication, whether in print or online (books, articles, websites, films, exhibitions, or broadcasts)
  • Public display or performance
  • Any use beyond the personal and educational uses described above

Because the Museum may not hold the rights to every item, granting permission for some materials may require you to also obtain permission from a third-party rights holder. Where we are able, we will help identify the appropriate rights holder, but it is the user’s responsibility to secure all necessary permissions.

How to Request Permission

To request permission to reproduce or use materials, please contact us with the following information:

  • Your name and contact information
  • A description of the specific item(s) you wish to use
  • How, where, and for how long the material will be used
  • Whether the use is commercial or non-commercial

Requests can be sent to:

When a third-party rights holder is involved, additional or alternate credit may be required.

Fair Use

Certain uses of copyrighted material may be permitted under the fair use provisions of U.S. copyright law without requiring permission. Determining whether a particular use qualifies as fair use is the responsibility of the user. The Holt Street Museum is not able to provide legal advice on fair use.
